Which Online Poker Providers Are Getting Into Sports Betting Too?

The rather passive nature of sports betting makes it the perfect partner for poker. Betting on a game and playing poker while you watch has been a favorite activity of sports bettors and poker players in Las Vegas, Nevada for years.

Now that both online poker and sports betting are coming to Pennsylvania, its a good bet to become a popular pastime among gamblers in the Commonwealth as well. Particularly considering two of the companies expected to be building the state’s biggest online poker rooms have expressed an interest in the sportsbook business as well.

Parx Casino and GAN

The first is Parx Casino and its online gambling software partner GAN.

Parx Casino already runs the highest-grossing poker room in the state. Plus, it hosts the most popular poker tournament series in PA.

All indications are any Parx-branded online poker room will be among the state’s most popular. Particularly because it will likely be running various cross promotions and satellites surrounding the poker room and its popular Big Stax live events.

GAN hasn’t really been in the online poker software industry until now, but it’s set to make a big splash with Parx. Plus, it’s going to dip more than just a toe into the PA sports betting waters as well.

In announcing it would be partnering with Parx to provide various online gambling software for the casino, GAN said it will be providing the tech behind Parx’ sports betting products as well.

Online, mobile and on-property sports betting

Parx recently applied for the $10 million PA sports betting license. GAN says it will be the backbone behind its online, mobile, and on-property sports betting. That means the launch of a mobile sports betting app, traditional retail over the counter services, and self-serve sports betting kiosks on the property.

Making it ever so simple and easy to play online poker while you bet on sports, Parx customers will be able to use one account across all its online gambling and sports betting platforms.

Apparently, the launch of sports betting at Parx could happen before the end of 2018.

Mount Airy Resort Casino and The Stars Group

Mount Airy Resort Casino in the Poconos and online gambling software partner The Stars Group are also planning something similar.

The Stars Group announced on Aug. 10, 2018 that it would be launching online casino, online poker, and mobile sports betting products in partnership with Mount Airy Casino Resort.

The Stars Group is promising to offer an all-inclusive, engaging online gambling experience in PA. It will do this by giving players seamless access to its PokerStars online casino and online poker products, and BetStars sports betting vertical, using a single account.

Mount Airy Casino Resort’s license to operate online gambling has already been approved by state regulators. The Aug. 10 announcement seems to indicate it will soon be applying for a $10 million sports betting license as well.

PokerStars already runs an online poker site with a variety of casino games in New Jersey. Plus, it runs the top online poker site in the world, thanks to its vastly superior software. Its BetStars sports betting product hasn’t yet taken that market by storm. However, it’s easy to see how the combination of the two can succeed in PA.

The company also recently announced a plan to offer online and mobile sports betting in New Jersey. It will do this under its BetStars brand.

No PA timetable currently exists, but it will likely launch in the first quarter of 2019.

Poker at Mount Airy Casino Resort includes just a small nine-table room. Of course, it has no sports betting on site to date. However, with The Stars Group behind it, Mount Airy is aiming to have a big presence in both, online, even if it doesn’t implement cross promotions and online-to-live poker satellites the same way Parx likely will.

Mount Airy and 888

Mount Airy also has a partnership with leading online poker and gambling software company 888 Holdings. The partnership, in place since 2014, involves 888 providing software for the Play Mount Airy social casino site. Plus, there are links to the 888 Casino in New Jersey on Mount Airy’s website.

Mount Airy may also launch 888 online casino and online poker sites.

Regardless, it looks like gamblers will have plenty of options for getting involved in both activities. Plus, there are likely other PA casinos at least thinking about following the Parx and Mount Airy lead.

In PA, online poker and mobile sports betting are about to fit together like hand and glove.
